Understanding the Trauma Brain Free eBooks
Throughout the four-ebook series, we explore the impact of past trauma on those of us living with the experience of COMPLEX PTSD. How it causes an imbalance between Amy's fight-or-flight response and Chloe's rational thinking. We also look at how cortisol affects our bodies and how a faulty negative feedback loop can contribute to the symptoms of Complex PTSD, leading to triggers, flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and depression
Through metaphorical storytelling, I aim to explain the intricate interplay between different brain regions and hormones, along with the need to rebalance the negative feedback loop that contributes to the experiences of individuals living with PTSD. Overall, our main theme is understanding the impact of trauma on the brain and finding ways to strengthen the rational brain's control over emotional responses in order to begin healing from Complex PTSD.
The Trauma Brain
I would like to introduce you to the different parts of the brain involved in processing traumatic experiences. I have given them friendly names and described their roles within a working team environment. With Chloe as the rational leader, Frank as the reasoner, Rex as the overseer of basic needs, Marge as the emotional manager, Tommy as the processor of sensory information, and Nigel as the empathetic thinker.
Lynette the memory Librarian
Our minds are like cameras, capturing snapshots of our experiences. Our internal librarian, who we'll call Lynette, dates and categorises these memories, placing them neatly in files to be stored away.
Lynette, the memory librarian, is a creature of habit. When trauma strikes, she immediately shuts down and exits the situation in fight, flight, or freeze mode.
